About Mud and Paws

Mud and Paws is a practical resource for anyone in the UK looking for canicross guides, harness fitting advice, and active dog gear reviews. No pseudo-science, no overblown promises — just straightforward guides covering the things people actually need to know before hitting the trails with their dogs.

Most content online is either too generic (focusing on restrictive walking harnesses) or too advanced (assuming you are a competitive sled dog racer). That gap between generic pet store advice and elite dog sports is exactly why Mud and Paws exists.

Who We Are

Mud and Paws is run by a small team of independent researchers and writers based in the UK. We are not veterinarians or elite racers — we are people who got fed up with conflicting advice online and decided to build something better.

We do not claim to have personally tested every product we mention. What we do is read the manufacturers’ own specifications and the live retailer listings, check the rules and safety advice against official sources such as GOV.UK, the Countryside Code, Dogs Trust and the RSPCA, and then say plainly what we would choose and why. When a recommendation is our own judgement, we write it as our judgement.

Our approach:

  • Research-first — product details come from manufacturer specs and live listings; rules and safety advice come from official sources
  • UK-specific context — suppliers, pricing, weather conditions, and access laws for British trails
  • Honest about limitations — we mention the catches and fitting issues you will not read in glossy product descriptions
  • Transparent about commercial relationships — affiliate links are clearly marked and do not influence our picks

Why Trust This Site?

  • Independent research: Every guide is built from manufacturer specifications, UK retailer listings and official sources, then checked before it goes live.
  • No fabricated testimonials: We never invent personal-use stories, reviews or quotes. Where we give an opinion, it is labelled as ours.
  • Transparency: If a product link is an affiliate link, it is clearly marked. If a method does not work, we say so.
  • Updates: Guides are reviewed and updated as new information becomes available.
